FLOWER BAZZAR (POOKADAI) SHIVA TEMPLE
1. EKAMBARAESWARAR TEMPLE
The Ekaambaraeswarar temple is near the Flower Bazaar or the China Bazaar. The temple is near the Kandhakoattam Murugar temple. The Rajagopuram is big with artistic work.
When King Thondaimaan ruled the State this place was called Idaiyaarpaalayam of the Chennarkuppam {now Parrys corner}. Since Yadhavas lived here this place was called Idaiyarpaalayam. A devotee who lived here regularly visited Kanchipuram Ekambaraeswarar temple. One day he could not go to Kachipuram. He then decided to build a temple for Ekambaraeswarar here so that people here could worship here instead of goimg to Kanchipuram as transportation was not easy those days. The temple which he built with great effort is this temple. This temple is now termed as Park town Ekaambaraeswarar temple.
The name of the Moolavar is Ekambaraeswarar and that of Ambaal is Kaamakshi. In the Koshta we find Vinayaka, Dhakshinamurthy, Vishnu, Brahma, Durgai and Chandikaeswarar as found in other temples. The Navagraha sannidhi is right in front of the Amman sannidhi. Since Ambaal sight falls straight on the Navagrahas people consider that al the Dhoshas created by Navagrahas will not affect them if they visit temple and worship the Ambaal. In the prahara we find Sannidhis like Viruthagireeswarar, Aadhi Shankara, Naalvar, 63 nayanmaars, Vinayaka, Muruga, Kaalahastheeswarar, Viswanaadhar, Visalaashi, Annamalaiyar and Chdambaraeswarar. In the Velimandapam we find the Uthsava Vigrahas, Nataraja and Bikshadanar. Before the enterance we find the Sooriyan, Chandran, and Hanuman. There is a peepal tree behind the temple. Under the tree is a Ramanaadhar linga which could be worshipped and abhishekam could be performed by the devotees directly. The banyan tree and the peepal tree is there for more than 350 years. There is a Goshala and a Muruganaayanaar Garden. The sthala viruksha is a mango tree. We find the bhairava sannidhi near this.
The brahmothsavam is celebrated in the month of Panguni every year. All the other temple rituals take place in a grand manner. Records say that this temple was built Aalinkaal Pillai around 600 years ago. These details have been recorded by a Historian H.D. LOVE in his book.
