THIRUVANCHERY SHIVA TEMPLE

VAITHEESWARAR TEMPLE

Thiruvanchery is situated near Madambakkam. The Linga has a square Aavudaiyar. This was a brick temple built before the 11th century. Only Vinayaka, Shiva and Nandhi were found in the temple. This temple is one of the 108 Shiva temples worshipped by Ulagalandha Perumal to get rid of his sin in his Vamana Avatar. The name of the place was - Thiru - Van - Cheri as Ulagalandha Perumal placed one Leg in the sky as he grew to the height of the sky. This temple had been completely destroyed without any remains. A few years back when the construction of a Vinayaka temple was started the Linga and a broken Nandhi was found under the ground. The people have now placed the Linga in the Vinayaka temple. A new Nandhi has been placed in front of Shiva and the broken old Nandhi is placed in the corner of the temple. A small Thayalnayaki sannidhi has also been added.
